Meet our sanctuary residents

Maddie

Maddie is our spicy little mustang with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She bounced around a bit early on and was often misunderstood because of her “wild” roots—but once you get to know her, it’s clear she’s pure gold. This smart, talented mare has so much to offer and has proven it through showing for two seasons with one of our working students. These days, Maddie has traded the show ring for the lesson program, where she’s become a total superstar with the littlest riders. The kids adore her, and honestly, we do too!

Chuck

Chuck is one of our Thoroughbreds and the only gelding in our foundation herd. He came to us carrying a lot—soundness concerns, mental roadblocks, and a whole lot of anxiety. With patience, consistency, and countless hours from one of our dedicated volunteers, Chuck began to find his footing and confidence again. Today, he’s thriving in weekly lessons with our staff member Scarlett, who absolutely adores him and makes sure he’s well compensated in cookies. We’re so excited to watch this partnership continue to grow and keep moving forward together.

Millie

Millie is one of our golden oldies, in her upper 20s, who came to us alongside Sassy and Berry. Before arriving, she spent years as a full-time trail horse, and now she’s soaking up a well-deserved retirement. With age has come a few challenges—arthritis and some loss of eyesight—but Millie’s gentle, kind nature shines brighter than ever. She still has so much love to give and is happiest when enjoying a good grooming or a refreshing bath, especially when it’s provided by her favorite volunteer, Vicki!

Sassy

Sassy came to us alongside Berry and Millie, and she is truly a head-turner. True to her name, it took about three years with us before she finally felt settled enough to let someone into her world. Thanks to the patience and consistency of one of our dedicated volunteers, Sassy has been able to build trust and find her comfort zone. While she does have some soundness challenges, she’s started light work and is doing wonderfully. She may be very sassy, but with the right person, her soft and sweet heart shines through.

Winnie

Winnie is one tough cookie with plenty of attitude and a delightfully spicy personality. While much of her past remains a mystery, one thing is certain—her future is bright. We’re incredibly thankful that one of our working students, Abigail, saw something special in Winnie and embraced every challenge she brought her way. Together, this duo tackled their very first show season like absolute champions, racking up some impressive accomplishments along the way. We’re so excited to see where this partnership goes next and deeply appreciate all of Abigail’s hard work and dedication.

Mariah

Mariah is our sweet, kind off-the-track Thoroughbred mare who first came to Boulder Brook Stables as a foster through Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. She arrived severely malnourished, with her filly bravely by her side. Thanks to the dedicated care and support she received at BBS, both mare and filly were able to regain their health and happiness. Her filly was later adopted by a former employee, and Mariah found her forever place as part of our foundation herd. She’s a beautiful reminder of why our foundation exists—to provide a safe, loving place for horses in need. Mariah has been reintroduced to very light work but is happiest spending her days in the field with Sassy and Friday. She’s a truly special mare with the gentlest, kindest heart.

Tater Tot

Tater Tot is our smallest horse in the herd but he is MIGHTY!  This mini gelding comes with a huge personality and no shortage of opinions. He was surrendered to us due to some behavioral challenges—namely biting and concerns around young children—but with structure and purpose, Tater has truly found his groove. He’s trained to drive a cart and thrives when he’s in consistent work. For a mini, he’s incredibly fancy and endlessly entertaining, proving that big fun really does come in small packages.

Friday

Girl Friday is our gentle giant and resident Clydesdale. After her owner, Tracey Lintelman, passed away, she was surrendered to TEF to ensure she would be safe and cared for for the rest of her life. Friday has a severe case of scratches beneath her feathers, but thanks to our dedicated volunteer Sam, she receives weekly care and maintenance. It’s not an easy job, but Sam’s commitment and love have created an unbreakable bond between them.

Ineeda

Ineeda spent her years as a reining and high-level performance horse, and now she’s ready to enjoy a well-earned retirement. As her needs have changed with age and a demanding performance career, she’s looking for a quieter, more laid-back lifestyle. She’s still a spicy girl at heart but never says no to a good grooming. After a lifetime of hard work, Ineeda is more than deserving of a soft, loving landing here at TEF.

Lilith

Lilith came to us through Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue—her mother was saved from the auction while pregnant, so Lilith got a lucky start in life in a foster home. With lots of time and care from our volunteer Sarah, who has done plenty of active riding with her, Lilith has blossomed into a sweet, loving mare with a big personality. While she does have some conformational challenges that make soundness tricky, she’s thriving, and we’re excited to see this team continue to grow and succeed together.
