Maddie is our spicy little mustang who has been passed around a handful of times in a very short amount of time. She was very misunderstood and judged for her “wild” background. This mare has so much to offer and has a smart brain. Maddie successfully showed for 2 seasons with one of our working students. She is now currently in our lesson program for the little kids and they all love her.
Chuck is one of our thoroughbreds and our only gelding horse that is a part of our foundation. Chuck came to us with quite a few issues (soundness, some mental blocks and A LOT of anxiety). Thankfully one of our volunteers put in a lot of time and effort to help Chuck and get him on the right page. He is now doing weekly lessons with one of our staff members, Scarlett, who loves him and gives him all the cookies. We are excited to keep this pair going strong.
Millie is one of our older residents (upper 20s) who was surrendered to us along with Sassy and Berry. She was previously a full time trail horse before she came to us and she is now enjoying a happy retirement. Where she is older we have run into some health problems such as arthritis and loss of eyesight. Even though she is older she still has so much to offer where she is so gentle and kind. She always enjoys a good grooming or a bath, especially when given by our volunteer Vicki.
Berry was surrendered to us along with Millie and Sassy. She is the most colorful out of our herd which is what makes her so eye-catching but don't let that fool you, she is definitely not the most friendly mare we have. She has recently formed a strong bond with one of our students, Fiona, and has shown that she has a soft and honest side, especially under saddle. Although Berry can be ridden she is limited due to some severe navicular issues that she has had before arriving at TEF. Berry spends most of her days outside with her pasture mate, Millie.
Sassy was surrendered to us with Berry and Millie and she is most definitely another eye-catching girl. She has taken 3 years of being with us to finally have settled in and be able to let someone into her life. With the consistency that one of our volunteers has put into her she has been allowed to grow her trust and feel comfortable. Sassy does have some soundness issues but has started work and is doing great. She is a very sassy girl but does have a soft heart with the right person.
Winnie is a very tough girl with a whole lot of attitude and a spicy personality. We don't know much about Winnies history but we do know she has a bright future ahead of her. We are thankful that one of our working students, Abigail, has grown a liking to her and truly enjoys and is able to face the challenges that Winnie throws at her. This pair took on their first horse showing season like absolute champs and achieved some great accomplishments. We are excited for this team and appreciate all of Abigail's hard efforts.
Mariah is our sweet and kind off the track thoroughbred mare who originally arrived at Boulder Brook Stables as a foster case via Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. She arrived very malnourished with a filly by her side. With the help and amazing care they received at BBS they were both able to become healthy and happy again. Her filly was later adopted by an employee at the time and Mariah became a part of the foundation. Mariah is a great example as to why we have a foundation and a safe place for these horses to go. She has been reintroduced to very light work but loves her days being out in the field with Sassy and Friday. She is a very good mare with a very kind heart.
Tater Tot is our smallest horse in the herd but he is MIGHTY! He is our mini gelding with a huge personality and many opinions. He was surrendered to us due to some behavioral issues, such as biting and a concern for his previous owner's children. Tater is trained to drive a cart and he is much happier when he is in consistent work. For a mini horse he is very fancy and can be very fun.
Girl Friday is our biggest horse in our herd as she is the resident Clydesdale. Friday was previously boarded at BBS before her owner, Tracey Lintelman, passed away. She was then surrendered to TEF to make sure that she would be safe and cared for, for the rest of her days. Friday has a severe case of scratches which consist of 4 different types of fungi that live behind her fetlocks in her feathers. Thankfully to one of our volunteers, Sam, Friday's scratches get cared for weekly and maintained. This is not an easy job and requires a strong stomach. Sam dedicates a lot of her time to Friday to ensure she is always taken care of and loved. These two definitely have an unbreakable bond!
Ineeda was previously a reining and high level performance horse but is now ready for retirement. Due to her needs changing based on her age and previous performance life she is looking for a more laid back lifestyle. She is a spicy girl but always loves a good grooming. After a lifetime of hard work Ineeda is more than deserving of a soft landing here at TEF.
Lilith originally came from Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. Her mother was rescued from the auction pipeline while being pregnant. She was born into a foster home which was a pretty lucky start to her life. When she came to us we were told that she was aggressive and dangerous. One of our volunteers, Sarah, has spent a lot of time working with her and has done a lot of active riding on her. She does have some conformational problems which makes being sound a little tricky but she has turned out to be a very sweet and loving girl with a big personality. We are excited for this team to continue their growth and success.
